Time for tradition to take flight!

Rice and Rocks is a wonderful, quick story of traveling the world and understanding the others.

I love the idea of Rice and Rocks. The fact that we take what we have for granted, that the grass is always greener on the other side, et al. The fact that the more we explore and understand the world, the more we realise how similar we all are. The fact that as we get familiar with the new, we learn to cherish the old too.

But before I read the book, it was the illustrations that I fell in love with.
They are bold and vivid, sensitive and detailed.

This one is one of my favorites. Discover the details, and fun, and enthusiasm that is calling through this pic.

Giovanni and his family are making plans to enjoy Sunday. And Giovanni's friends are to join too.

Using few words, the author gives a lesson in geography, and familial ties.
Believe in magic, and be charmed by the world of Rice and Rocks.

Giovanni's friends are coming over. And it is the thought of Rice and Beans that has Giovanni upset and tensed.

Rice and Rocks is an adventure. A lovely book that teaches you much.

A fun book, that teaches many lessons.
Rice and Rocks is about understanding one's traditions and valuing them.

In author's own words, Rice and Rocks is a celebration of 'family, friends, and traditions'.

Again quoting the author's excited words - "RICE AND ROCKS ROCK!"

About the Book

Book Description:  Tradition takes flight in Rice & Rocks, a picture book celebrating culture and diversity. Giovanni's friends are coming over for Sunday dinner, and his grandmother is serving rice and beans. Giovanni is embarrassed he does not like 'rice and rocks' and worries his friends will think the traditional Jamaican dish is weird. But his favorite Auntie comes to the rescue. She and Giovanni's pet parrot, Jasper, take him on a magical journey across the globe, visiting places where people eat rice and rocks. This exciting story celebrates the varied traditions of every culture while also highlighting the delicious similarities that bring us all together.
