Mid winter - Haiku

The prompt for Carpe Diem #892 is Kan-no-uchi (mid-winter).
Mid winter is the coldest time of winter.

One of my memories of winters is of walking a distance of 10 minutes or so for school bus.
Early morning, still dark. My sister and I and a couple of friends.
My grandfather (Pitaji, we called him. Pitaji is punjabi for father or grandfather).
My grandfather would follow us at a distance quietly. We always insisted that there was no need. So he would follow quietly. Wait at a distance till we would board the bus and then go back home.
